Healthcare professionals in Oakland need AHA training that fits their schedule. Safety Training Seminars delivers exactly that—Self-Guided Learning™ courses for BLS, ACLS, and PALS at a conveniently located CPR Verification Station™ learning center in the heart of the city.
Oakland’s medical community is busy. Nurses at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, physicians at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, and EMTs serving Highland Hospital all share the same challenge: renewing AHA training without disrupting long shifts or back-to-back patient care. Self-Guided Learning courses solve that problem directly. You complete the online learning activity on your own schedule, then walk into the local CPR Verification Station learning center at 154 Santa Clara Ave, Suite 6—right across from the 76 Gas Station near Oakland Avenue in the Piedmont neighborhood—and finish your hands-on skills session independently.
No fixed class time. No group schedule to follow. Just a clear, structured path to your American Heart Association® Course Completion eCard.
A Self-Guided Learning course combines two independent components:
Together, these two steps fulfill the full requirements of American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, or PALS training. Upon successful completion of both components, learners receive an American Heart Association Course Completion eCard.
This approach differs from traditional classroom training and blended learning formats, where an instructor leads or evaluates the skills session. With Self-Guided Learning, every component is completed independently. That distinction matters for busy healthcare professionals who cannot commit to scheduled group sessions.
The online learning activity uses True Adaptive™ learning powered by Area9 Lyceum. This technology continuously evaluates your existing knowledge and confidence in real time. Content adjusts dynamically to focus on your knowledge gaps.
Here is what that means in practice:
The online portion includes interactive patient care scenarios, algorithm-based content, and clinical decision-making exercises that reflect real emergency situations. You can access it on a desktop, laptop, or tablet—anytime, anywhere.
Completion of the online learning activity alone does not result in an AHA Course Completion eCard. The self-guided skills session must also be completed successfully.
After finishing the online learning activity, you schedule your skills session at the CPR Verification Station learning center. The Oakland Piedmont location sits at 154 Santa Clara Ave, Suite 6—on the bottom floor of the building, parking lot entry approximately 50 feet from the corner of Oakland Avenue and Santa Clara Avenue.
During the skills session, you complete:
The CPR Verification Station learning center provides real-time, audiovisual performance feedback using simulation technology. It objectively measures compression depth, rate, recoil, ventilation volume, and timing. No instructor evaluates your technique. The technology does it—consistently, objectively, and without variability between sessions.
You may repeat skills practice as needed until you achieve a passing score.
PALS provides critical care training for infants and children. It is essential for providers at facilities like UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. The online portion runs 2–3 hours. Skills testing takes approximately 30 minutes. Price: $290.
All three courses follow AHA 2025 Guidelines. American Heart Association Course Completion eCards are issued the same day skills testing is completed.
The Piedmont neighborhood location at 154 Santa Clara Ave places the CPR Verification Station learning center within reach of healthcare workers across the city. Professionals traveling from Lake Merritt, the Fruitvale district, or neighborhoods near Piedmont Avenue—home to landmarks like Fentons Creamery and the historic Piedmont Theatre—can access the location without significant detour.
Safety Training Seminars also operates additional Oakland locations at 2648 International Blvd, Suite 59B (Fruitvale Gateway Building) and 1901 Harrison Street, Suite 1147 (Lake Merritt area), giving providers multiple access points across the city.
Beyond location, the Self-Guided Learning approach delivers specific advantages for healthcare professionals:
Safety Training Seminars holds official American Heart Association Training Center status (#20784) and has earned more than 20,000 five-star Google reviews across its 75+ California locations. The organization was founded in 1989 and is woman-owned, led by Laura Seidel.
Self-Guided Learning courses work best for:
If your employer requires an American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, or PALS Provider eCard—and your schedule makes traditional classroom training impractical—this course format is built for you.
The path to your American Heart Association Course Completion eCard runs through three steps. Complete the online learning activity at your own pace. Schedule your skills session at the CPR Verification Station learning center in Oakland. Receive your eCard the same day.

EXCELLENT Based on 454 reviews Posted on Marvin Alberto GonzalezTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Definely will recommend to friends to take their test here. It was easy access and all clean and ready. Got a free mask! AwesomePosted on Jane GTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. the guy in front of me was in there 2 hours before i told the secretary he’s prob doing the online modules and he probably needs to be checked on and i got a parking ticket waiting for him 😞 but once i got in there it was easy to use and i was done in 15 min! (5 per certification BLS PALS ACLS) also they charge 5$ to get the ecard but you get it for free anyways from RQI so do not pay for that part!Posted on Jason ProctorTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Did my BLS course through this organization. Having to go in solo with a virtual assistant was a bit unusual, but it wasn't a bad experience. I would have at least preferred that a receptionist was available however, there was phone support available during my time. I am very satisfied with the course given, it was in depth and provided valuable exercise. I would very much refer this service to others.Posted on Michelle BakerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Easy to find, Easy parking, great instructions. Room is small and hot even with the fan blowing. Cart where adult mannequin is too low to the ground for standing and too high for kneeling. Otherwise great, easy, fast and seamless experience. Will definitely be backPosted on Algis SodonisTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent easy access. Good technological and logistical support. Only complaint is that the infant dummy was not easy to turn around for using an alternate compression technique
